Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister Showcases Nation’s Progress at World Governments Summit in Dubai

Dubai, UAE – February 10, 2025

Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, has arrived safely in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he is leading the country’s delegation to the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025. The three-day global event, scheduled for February 11–13, brings together heads of state, policymakers, thought leaders, and private sector executives to discuss innovative solutions for governance and global challenges.

This year’s Summit will provide a major platform for Sierra Leone, as Dr. Sengeh is set to deliver a keynote address at the main plenary session on the topic: “New Economic Revolution: An African Perspective.” He will share insights alongside distinguished figures, including Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank, and Tony Elumelu, Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation.

Positioning Sierra Leone on the Global Stage

Dr. Sengeh’s participation underscores Sierra Leone’s growing influence in global governance and innovation. The Chief Minister, who also serves as Sierra Leone’s Chief Innovation Officer, will chair and speak at a high-level roundtable on “The Future of Education.” He is expected to highlight the successes of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s Free Quality Education program, as well as the ongoing digital transformation in Sierra Leone’s education sector.

In addition to his public engagements, Dr. Sengeh will use the Summit to deepen Sierra Leone’s international partnerships. On the sidelines of the event, he is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with high-level UAE government officials to strengthen relations between Sierra Leone and the Gulf nation. He will also meet with business leaders and investors to explore opportunities for economic collaboration and investment in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone’s Presence at a Prestigious Global Platform

The World Governments Summit is one of the most prestigious platforms for global governance discussions, attracting influential leaders from across the world. This year’s lineup includes H.E Andrzej Duda, President of Poland; H.E Andry Rajoelina, President of Madagascar; H.E Gustavo Petro, President of Colombia; Hon. Prabowo Subianto, President of Indonesia; and H.E Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Dr. Sengeh is no stranger to the Summit. In 2023, he was recognized as the “Best Minister in the World” for his transformative leadership in Sierra Leone’s education sector. His return as a key speaker further cements Sierra Leone’s growing reputation as a country committed to innovation, education, and progressive governance.

Accompanying Dr. Sengeh are the Minister of Communication, Technology, and Innovation and the Deputy Minister of Finance. The delegation was warmly welcomed upon arrival by Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the UAE, Rashid Sesay.

With a strong presence at the World Governments Summit 2025, Sierra Leone continues to position itself as a nation embracing innovation, governance reform, and global partnerships for sustainable development.
